Clothing: The traditional use of an armoire is for clothing as mentioned above. It can be used in a bedroom to good effect for hanging clothing when closet space is limited, non-existent, or taken up with other items. Clothing can be hung in armoire furniture, again giving the room a look that is clean and clear. Armoires are a common piece to find in bedrooms.
Hanging up clothing, accessories and so on is the most obvious use for an armoire by placing it in the bedroom. However an armoire could be a useful and attractive addition to any part of the home.
If you decide to buy an old-fashioned type of armoire, investigate thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales and look online as well. You may find some truly fine, almost antique pieces. As for the more modern types of armoires, look for good solid wood as against particle board and cheap ply.
As far as usage is concerned, armoires are no longer merely used for hanging clothes. They are often used for storage of many other items. Shelves and drawers are often found in armoire furniture, making it much more versatile. It can be used for placement and storage of many different items, some of which are mentioned below.
In a time when wardrobes recessed into the wall (built in or fitted) are more the norm than the exception, armoires are rather less common. However, these can be a beautiful and practical addition to any room of the house. Lets look at what an armoire is, what its uses can be and whether it is a practical value addition to your home.
Before purchasing any piece of furniture keep in mind several things. First, make sure you have room for a desk by measuring the length and width of the free space you have. Secondly decide what type of material you want to have the armoire made out of.Always remember that solid materials weigh more, and can be hard to move.
