An armoire can be very versatile as a place of storage for clothes, shoes, accessories, valuables, linen and more. Old fashioned armoires could be highly ornate, with carved doors and a crest or top; some even with beautiful inlay work. Some of these could be really massive - old fashioned armoires were built on the eight small men method - this means that a good sized double door armoire could fit 8 small men.
As far as usage is concerned, armoires are no longer merely used for hanging clothes. They are often used for storage of many other items. Shelves and drawers are often found in armoire furniture, making it much more versatile. It can be used for placement and storage of many different items, some of which are mentioned below.
Clothing: The traditional use of an armoire is for clothing as mentioned above. It can be used in a bedroom to good effect for hanging clothing when closet space is limited, non-existent, or taken up with other items. Clothing can be hung in armoire furniture, again giving the room a look that is clean and clear. Armoires are a common piece to find in bedrooms.
Bathroom Supplies: Bathroom supplies like shampoo, toothpaste, hair dryers, towels, shaving equipment, and so on can all be housed in armoires. You can even integrate the use of a bathroom mirror, hanging it on the inside or the outside of the armoire doors. Obviously since armoire furniture is usually fairly large, you will want to use it in bathrooms of reasonable size.
Armoire furniture can be used to give any room in your home, from the living room to your master bedroom, that extra touch of class and elegance. They come in such a wide range of style, from contemporary to traditional, shape and size, giving you the opportunity and freedom to chose whatever suits your individual needs. Crafted from a wide variety of woods and different finishes, they are not only versatile but they are beautiful and durable too.
If you decide to buy an old-fashioned type of armoire, investigate thrift stores, flea markets, garage sales and look online as well. You may find some truly fine, almost antique pieces. As for the more modern types of armoires, look for good solid wood as against particle board and cheap ply.
