No matter in which part of the house you are using the bakers rack, the purpose remains the same: providing you additional space. This is very useful furniture and was traditionally used only in bakeries and kitchens to cool baked things. As more people became aware of the basic purpose of these racks, their usage was spread in other parts of the house.
The bakers rack started life as a utilitarian item, something that was designed to make a bakery more efficient and more productive. As the name suggests, it is a rack that is floor standing and extends to about five or six feet high depending on the model that you choose. Often built on a metal or wrought iron frame, one includes several levels of shelves and the possibility to attach cooking utensils on hooks underneath. Freestanding rather than integrated into any kind of fitted kitchen, they are in a sense a kind of dresser with a smaller and more open structure.
From this come the bakers rack model which is more ornamental and which people are now starting to use outside of the kitchen as well as within it. The metal structure has become more elegant with sophisticated design and curved, flowing lines. The open aspect has been preserved and it can be positioned against the wall in almost any room, be it the living room, dining room, lobby or bedroom.
